These delectable sprouts, when conjured in the air fryer, undergo a mesmerizing transformation, resulting in crispy exteriors and tender, flavorful cores. Bursting with fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants, this dish not only tantalizes the taste buds but also offers a nourishing symphony for the body. The air frying technique not only enhances the inherent nuttiness of the Brussels sprouts but also preserves their nutritional integrity, fostering a delightful harmony between gastronomic pleasure and well-being.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional, for a smoky flavor)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar or lemon juice (optional, for a tangy finish)
  • 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for extra flavor)
  • Red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)

Instructions

Step 1:Prepare the Brussels Sprouts

  • Trim the ends of the Brussels sprouts and remove any yellow or damaged outer leaves.
  • Cut the Brussels sprouts in half lengthwise for even cooking. If the sprouts are particularly large, you can quarter them.

Step 2:Season the Brussels Sprouts

  • In a large bowl, toss the halved Brussels sprouts with olive oil, garlic powder, smoked paprika (if using), salt, and black pepper.
  • Make sure they are evenly coated with the oil and seasonings.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3-5 minutes. This ensures even cooking and helps the Brussels sprouts get crispy.

Step 3:Air Fry the Brussels Sprouts

  • Place the seasoned Brussels sprouts in the air fryer basket in a single layer. You may need to cook them in batches if your air fryer is small.
  • Cook the Brussels sprouts at 375°F (190°C) for 12-15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time to ensure even browning.
  • They are done when they are crispy on the outside and tender inside. For extra crispiness, you can cook them for an additional 2-3 minutes.

Step 4:Finish and Serve

  • After the Brussels sprouts are done, transfer them to a bowl. Drizzle with balsamic vinegar or lemon juice, and toss to coat. If desired, sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes for added flavor.
  • Serve immediately as a side dish.

Notes

  • For a sweet and savory twist, drizzle the cooked Brussels sprouts with a bit of honey or maple syrup.
  • You can add other seasonings like onion powder, cumin, or nutritional yeast for different flavor profiles.
  • If you want to add more texture, toss in some toasted nuts or dried cranberries before serving.
