Description

This apple and honey tart will bring you the perfect blend of soft apples and sweet honey underneath a crunchy shell in one bite, allowing you to indulge in a wonderful treat of sweet and fruity flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet of puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 large apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Crust

  • In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and salt.
  • Add the cold butter cubes and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Add the egg yolk and ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough starts to come together.
  • Form the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Step 2: Prepare the Filling

  • In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with honey, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour.
  • Make sure all the apple slices are evenly coated. Set aside.

Step 3: Assemble the Tart

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to fit a 9-inch tart pan.
  • Press the dough into the pan and trim the edges.
  • Arrange the apple slices in a circular pattern over the crust, overlapping slightly.
  • Pour any remaining honey mixture over the apples.

Step 4: Bake the Tart

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
  • While the tart is baking, prepare the glaze by heating the apricot jam and water in a small saucepan until melted and smooth.
  • Brush the glaze over the warm tart right after it comes out of the oven.

Notes

  • For a more complex flavor, mix different varieties of apples.
  • Serve the tart warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
  • You can make the tart dough ahead of time and freeze it for up to a month.
