Description

Panna cotta is a luxurious Italian dessert known for its velvety texture and delicate, creamy flavor, making it a perfect indulgence for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 vanilla bean
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine salt
  • 3 tablespoons cold water
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon powdered gelatin

Instructions

Step 1:

  • In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over the cold water and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes to bloom.

Step 2:

  • In a saucepan, combine the heavy cream, milk, and sugar.
  • Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it reaches a simmer.
  • Once it simmers, remove it from the heat. Add the vanilla extract to the cream mixture and stir to combine.
  • Then, add the bloomed gelatin to the cream mixture and stir until the gelatin completely dissolves.

Step 3:

  • Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve to ensure a smooth texture.
  • Pour the mixture into individual serving glasses or ramekins.
  • Allow it to cool to room temperature, then cover the glasses with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or until set.

Step 4:

  • Once the panna cotta is set, you can serve it as is or with your choice of fruit compote, caramel sauce, or fresh berries.
  • Optionally, you can garnish it with mint leaves or a sprinkle of powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • Scraping vanilla seeds? Use a spoon for a cleaner job.
  • Ensure even distribution of vanilla seeds for that beautiful speckled look.
  • No need to unmold; serve directly in any vessel you fancy.
