Description

The creamy texture and vibrant color of mashed sweet potatoes add visual appeal to the plate. It makes a flavorful and delicious dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup honey (or maple syrup for a vegan option)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Optional toppings: chopped pecans, marshmallows (ensure they’re kosher for Passover)

Instructions

Step1: Cook the Sweet Potatoes:

  • Place the peeled and cubed sweet potatoes in a large pot, cover them with water, and bring to a boil.
  • Reduce the heat and let them simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until tender. Drain well.

Step2: Mash the Sweet Potatoes:

  • Return the drained sweet potatoes to the pot or a large bowl. Mash until smooth using a potato masher or electric mixer.

Step3: Mix in the Ingredients:

  • Add the melted butter, honey (or maple syrup), cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.

Step4: Optional Toppings and Serve:

  • Transfer to a serving dish and, if desired, top with chopped pecans or marshmallows (broil marshmallows briefly if you want them toasted). Serve warm.

Notes

  • For an extra-special touch, top the mashed sweet potatoes with kosher-for-Passover marshmallows during the last 5 minutes of baking for a sweet, marshmallow-topped treat.
  • Adjust the sweetness of the dish by adding more or less honey/maple syrup according to your preference.
  • Feel free to customize the spices to your liking. You can add a pinch of cloves or allspice for additional warmth and complexity.
