Description

Sourdough waffles, a delightful and flavorful twist on a classic brunch favorite, perfect for spoiling Mom on her special day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 3/4 ounces (190 grams) sourdough starter
  • 3 1/2 ounces (100 grams) milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 1/2 ounces (100 grams) all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons (20 grams) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

Step 1:

  • Preheat your waffle iron to medium or dark setting and preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C).

Step 2:

  • In a large bowl, whisk together sourdough starter, milk, and eggs until well combined.
  • In another bowl, mix flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  • Combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture. Add melted butter and mix until just combined.

Step 3:

  • Ladle the batter onto the preheated waffle iron.
  • Cook for about 4 minutes until golden brown and fragrant. Cooking time may vary depending on your waffle iron.
  • Keep the first batch warm in the oven while you cook the rest. Once done, serve immediately.

Step 4:

  • Any leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to three days.
  • Reheat before serving.

Notes

  • Activating the top yeast needs to be planned in advance, preferably prepared overnight.
  • The top yeast adds a deep tartness and richness to the waffle that sets it apart from traditional waffles.
  • For best texture and flavor, it is recommended to serve waffles with fresh fruit or maple syrup.
